Ross
plays and teaches solo acoustic guitar music.
Based on classical fingerstyle techniques, Ross teaches
beginners to advanced students. He teaches a variety of
styles from Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic
periods, as well as Contemporary, Jazz, Popular and World
Music influences.
Ross teaches the Trinity Guildhall exam syllabus grades 1
to 8. He also arranges and composes music for his students
to play.
Ross's teaching aim is to help students to develop a
technique and to put together a set of performance pieces
that the student can evolve and play to the highest level
that they can. This is the experience of playing something
well, no matter how simple or complex the piece. The
student can play for enjoyment, for themselves, or to share
with an audience.
Ross teaches from his home studio in the North Shore,
Auckland, New Zealand
Below is a study for classical guitar by Ferdinando Carulli
(1770-1841), as an example of the pieces Ross teaches.
